On the third day in Manchester, after arriving from Iceland, IDF started the day with a tour of the famous Bramhall Hall followed by a light meal and relaxation back at the team hotel. The team departed the hotel at 3:00 pm, stopped for a pregame meal and arrived at Manchester City Football Academy $350M facility, dubbed Sport City, for a game versus their Select Academy team. Following a warm welcome, the team was led to the dressing room to change and get ready for warm-up. Immediately after kick-off, IDF displayed some good football, with nice combinations out of the back into the mid-field. Unfortunately we were not as committed in the attacking third as we were in the other areas of the pitch. City scored first, following a scramble inside the box and went up 2-0 on a questionable offside no call from the coach serving as a referee. IDF responded by continuing to move the ball which eventually led to Jay splitting the defense with one of his trade mark through balls for JoJo running in behind the defense and putting one past the helpless keeper to make it 2-1 just before the end of the first half.
The second half started with IDF continuing to mount pressure against City and showing some sense of urgency as the match was shortened to 25 minute halves. IDF found itself down 3-1 when Samson mishandled what should have been a routine catch that ended with the ball in the back of the net. IDF continued to show a sense of urgency and pulled one back shortly thereafter when Conrad, who had come on as a substitute at the start of the second half, tapped one in following a free kick from Jay.
The match ended with a 4-3 win for IDF after Jay converted a PK following a foul on Conrad; Mark finished off City with a nice goal following a pass from Jay. Overall, IDF proved that they can play with the very best as they clearly dominated possession while showing that they can apply sustained collective pressure to come from behind to win against a very determined City team consisting of players who are fighting for a spot on the prestigious Academy program. IDF will be in action again tomorrow at 5:45GMT against Preston FC, Huddersfield FC on Wednesday and Manchester City Academy on Thursday, which will be the final game of the trip.
